Squid!

At E3, I got these really cute squid charms from the game Splatoon. They are so cute!

After finding them in my tote bag I deiced that I need to make a squid coloring page! Instead of showing WIP pictures I recorded me drawing it.

Here is the video!

Enjoy!

Temecula Balloon & Wine Festival

Every year, the wineries in the city of Temecula and hot air balloons gather for a festival. Over a hundred vendors join this celebration wine. This is a good chance to test wines and see which ones you like.
Each year my family camps at a campsite by the festival.  It is a fun family camping trip and a great way to get away from computers and the normal grind of work.

While I was at the campsite there were some flowers that I drew.  Of course I didn't draw the flowers like they were.  I added some flare and bubbles as if they were flowers from a other world! This was my inspiration for my next art project. I want to create a set of flower prints. I am thinking about having about 3 or 4 paintings of these flowers. Here is the WIP pictures of them so far.

E3 Fun!

E3 was fun! I got to play all kinds of new games coming out. Here are some photos of my trip.

Very beautiful art from the Banner Saga.

So many people!

RAWR!

This thing was so beastly!

It is hard to see, but someone had a flying camera above us flying around while we waited to get a sneak peak of The Witcher 3.

I played a little of the Hyrule Warriors game and it was fun! I would like to get it in the future.

This thing was so BIG! It was hard to get a picture of it and show it's scale. It was as big as a Macy's Parade balloon!

This was a fun game! It was like a kid version of Team Fortress 2.

Watercolor Tests

I have done a couple of watercolor pieces and they curl up because of the water. I don't like that, so I looked around for solutions to fix this curling annoyance. The more popular choice was to stretch the canvas. To do this you must first soak the watercolor paper for about 15 minutes. Then you let all the excess water drip off and tape it to a board. You then have to let it dry for 24 hours. This method consists of time and preparation.

I have decided that I am lazy.

The other option is to create watercolor pieces on watercolor blocks. On watercolor blocks the canvases are already stretched. That sounds like a better way to go. However, I have all this loose paper that I need to use. I don't want to be wasteful. So I am going to try to tape it on a board before I paint on it. Here is the WIP pictures of this week's art piece with my tape test.

In the last image, the painting is off the board and it has very little curling. I like this method better and I recommend it to impatient people like me who just want to jump into a painting without much prep work.

Finished Butterfly

Here is the finished version of the butterfly!

I need to bring it to a print shop so that I can get it scanned. The above is just a picture I took with my phone. I have other large pieces I cannot just scan because they are too big. I could take pictures of my artwork, but I feel like I will not get a good high resolution from the phone.

By the way, I am going to E3 this year! If I get some good ones, I will be posting up some pictures. I really hope there is some kind of announcement for the new Zelda game. I also hope to see Star Wars Battlefront! I really liked that game series and I want to see it return.

Butterfly

I wanted to do an art piece with a butterfly because I love their shape and colors. They seem so graceful. Since I picked my subject, I conducted some research. Here are my references that I found on Pinterest.

After I got some images and shapes that I liked, I sketched some ideas for the butterfly shape and pattern.

Then I penciled out the main pieces of my design on watercolor paper.

Piece by piece, I put together the butterfly.  I started to add detail and patterns into the wings and the mandala.

I haven't finished it yet, but I will be able to complete it soon. Then I will watercolor it. :)

Introduction

What Do I Do

My name is Arielle, or you can call me Durribie! I sell my art at my Etsy store (https://www.etsy.com/shop/durribie). I create art to help people escape from reality even if it is just for a minute. I create coloring pages and prints of my art. I use mostly watercolors and ink to create my art.

Why Do I Do It

Cause it's fun! Art is a great way for me to express myself and the odd things that I come up with. I feel that I need to help others escape as I escape with my own daydreams. Some people have a hard time trying to escape so they can have a little break from the everyday stresses of life. Imagination is one way people can relieve the anxiety they face each day. I have a big imagination that I want to share so that I may spark some creativity in others.

Why Blog

To spread the imagination! I cannot help people if they do not know about me and my mission. I want to bring people into my world and show how imagination can bring light to all of life. It will help organize my thoughts and crazy ideas in one place. And I get to show off a little. :)
